Introducing an impressive series of characters connected to the great tragedy

If Chapter 1 is just beginning to lead the story, and revolves around Fran’s efforts to find a way out of the mental hospital and find Mr. Midnight. Then Chapter 2 is a long way around in the deep forest to find the way back to Aunt Grace’s house with the ebony cat. Here, Fran and Mr. Midnight met a lot of strange characters like a giant ant, almost fooled by a pair of conjoined twins…

At first glance, you think everything is just a monster motif born from fear or distorted consciousness of the main character or someone. But it’s not. Every time a character appears from season 2 onwards, it seems to be related to a piece of truth that Fran is looking for, in the form of metaphors, explanations, or directly related to the death of her parents.

Chapter 2, the excellent mood bridge

Also through this Chapter 2, her grief becomes clearer. Most of the puzzles in part 2 are used to explain her current mood. It’s hard to tell the dimensions of your emotions when playing Chapter 2 (and Chapters 3 and 4 as well). For me, Chapter 1 and Chapter 5 are the most decisive of the game with the role of opening and closing all events. Chapters 2, 3, and 4 are the leading thread, creating connections and explaining little by little the psychological developments of the characters, also a part of the dark events of the past.

Explain the dark parallel world

In Chapter 2, the puzzles, backgrounds, and characters appear to become more unusual, starting to blend in surreal colors. Through Chapter 3, and Chapter 4 you will feel more and more of this surreal substance. There are still some bloody scenes when drinking Doutine on people, but not as much as in other chapters. This is also a bit unfortunate because I keep feeling the murky, scary, horror quality of Doutine. The game is not evenly distributed. The later, the less and less quality, making the player sometimes feel a bit lengthy, no way out. Starting from part 2 is a bit lengthy.

Anyway, still with point-and-click animated 2D puzzle gameplay combined with good narration art, Fran Bow Chapter 2 has done a good job in introducing more clearly the presence of a parallel world, a world where the blood-red liquid always opens every time Fran drinks it.
