Following the events of Chapter 3, after returning to human form and exiting the world of Ithersta, Fran continued through the forest to find her way home.

In the middle of the forest, Fran meets Palontras, the monster of wisdom, and Itward, a grotesque monster that mixes humans and skeletons with a monstrous aristocratic suit. Strangely, they looked scary, but to Fran, there was an affectionate sense of familiarity. These two important characters help her find the Midnight cat and guide her home.

On the way back, Itward’s plane crashed, and Fran was now almost home. Suddenly she was taken away by Dr. Deern. On the way Fran continues to encounter Remor, the ghostly monster she has seen since the first part. Remor takes Fran to another world that looks like hell to meet her mother, Mabuka.

Mabuka reveals to Fran a shocking secret: Fran’s aunt Grace, along with the old doctor Oswald, ordered Remor to possess Fran and kill her parents because Oswald had a blind belief: Fran’s suffering is the key to the success of his inhuman experiment.

Fran was later discovered by her aunt Grace and brought home. This is the end of Chapter 4. But don’t stop, for an even crazier secret, which will be revealed at the end of Chapter 5.

Chapter 2, chapter 3, and chapter 4 are considered puzzle-heavy sections with lots of puzzles going on. At the end of this chapter, more cutscenes begin, signaling the explanation that explains everything at the end of the series.

Regarding the level of gore, chapters 3 and Fran Bow Chapter 4 are completely reduced. This is also the reason why I mentioned that the horror of Fran Bow is unevenly distributed. So is the difficulty. The proof is that the puzzle at the beginning of chapter 4 is quite difficult, but later on, it becomes more and more sparse and decreases in difficulty. It can be said that compared to chapters 2 and 3, the gameplay of chapter 4 slows down, and the rhythm relaxes, perhaps because it begins to focus on explaining the story.

I think chapters 3 and Fran Bow Chapter 4 can be merged into one to reduce the feeling of being a bit lengthy. The events and encounters of these two parts are indeed related to the final ending, but many unnecessary supporting characters also appear, making the main line a bit diluted, losing the drama.
