Block Story Premium is an open-world adventure game developed by the independent game team MindBlock Studio, based in the Russian Federation. The game is published by MindBlocks for Windows operating system on the Steam game publishing platform. The Android mobile version is released on Google Play by Big Cube Interactive. The Russian version is released through RuStore on the Android platform and VKPlay on the Windows platform.

The predecessor of Block Story Premium is a game called MineRuin, released on PC and Webgame platforms in 2011 with gameplay almost identical to games of the same genre such as Minecraft or Roblox. However, in 2015, with its creativity, MindBlocks launched Block Story Premium to replace MineRuin, adding role-playing elements and magic, pets, enhancing combat and survival.

Like Minecraft or Roblox, the world of Block Story is built with 3D blocks, also known as Voxel graphics style. Players are free to do whatever they want in the world. Such as exploring the ground and dungeons, digging the terrain, cutting trees for materials, crafting items to help with survival and combat. Block Story does more than just explore and survive.

With the addition of RPG elements, players no longer have to wander aimlessly in the vast world of the game. At the beginning of the game, you will meet the Wizard, who acts as a guide. He will give you quests and through those quests, in addition to unlocking features in the game, you can understand the mechanics in the game.

Leveling, stats and skills system

As I analyzed above, the unique point of Block Story Premium is the role-playing element. When mentioning this element, we immediately think of the gameplay of farming and character development. That’s right, the game provides us with a level and index system, which is both an interesting feature and a challenge on the journey. The character you control in the game has quite diverse internal stats. Those stats include:

• Player Health: Increases resistance in combat, decreases when injured and decreases when the character dies, can be restored with recovery items. Displayed on the interface by a heart, 50 health per heart.
• Player Mana: Used to cast spells, and will be restored over time or with items. Displayed on the interface by a magic bottle, 30 energy per bottle.
• Underwater Breath: Extends survival time when the character is underwater, decreases gradually and when reduced to 0, it will be reduced to health.
• Sword Damage: Increases damage when you use a sword to attack enemies.
• Arrow Damage: Increases damage when you use a bow to attack enemies.
• Bow Shoot Force: Increases the range of the bow.
• Gun Power: Increases damage when you use a gun to attack enemies
• Magic Damage: Casts magic on stronger enemies based on this stat.
• Loot Distance: Collects items further.
• Walk Speed: The higher this stat, the faster the character runs.
• Fly Speed: The higher this stat, the faster the character flies.
• Dig Speed: The higher this stat, the faster the character digs the terrain.
• Exp: Received when fighting or crafting, when reaching the required points, increases 1 level.
• Level: Each time you increase 1 level, the character will be stronger and unlock some features or quests.
• Armor: Reduces damage when attacked, can only be increased by equipping hats, armor, gloves, shoes for the character.
• Hunger: Shown as 5 steaks in the interface, always decreasing over time, when exhausted, it will be deducted from blood. To avoid hunger, you need to feed the character.

Except for stats like Exp, Level, Armor, Hunger, the above stats can all be increased by level or using Skill Points to upgrade (it costs 1 skill point to upgrade 1 stat). You can earn skill points by leveling up, using magic items or completing quests in the game.

Ecological environment and rich creatures

Block Story Premium’s ecosystem really impressed me. There are over 137 species of creatures, scattered on land, in caves, and underwater. The creatures are divided into 4 types based on their behavior towards the player or surrounding creatures.

• Passive Mobs: Passive creatures such as Horse, Dog Soul,… These creatures will run away when encountering players or more aggressive creatures, some will only run away when attacked, their names are displayed in blue.
• Neutral Mobs: Neutral creatures such as Angel Goblin, Yeti South,… These creatures do not attack players, but will fight back if attacked.
• Aggressive Mobs: Aggressive creatures, will actively attack when seeing players, typically Spider, Bear or bosses with terrifying power such as Hydra, Phoenix.
• Pets: Pets, these creatures can be collected by players during the game exploration process, kept in the inventory as items, when summoned, they will fight with the player. You can summon multiple Pets at the same time, helping to improve combat ability.

Diverse items and equipment

Block Story Premium provides a total of 41 blocks (earth, sandstone…), 55 different types of items with rich uses, helping to enhance your creativity while exploring the game. In particular, the game has 31 types of weapons, 25 different types of armor and shields. Particularly for the Staff weapon, you can access 7 types of magic with uses such as lightning attack, earth, healing…
